March 17 (Monday) - Los Angeles St. Patrick's Day Parade (Los Angeles)
CFE member rigs have been invited to participate again this year. The parade route goes South on Main Street to 5th Street, west on 5th to Pershing Square where the parade ends. The parade check-in area will be located on Main Street at Cesar Chavez. Enter Main Street southbound from Cesar Chavez. Only one person per entry needs to check-in for the unit. When you check-in you will be given an envelope containing your parade entry number. This number must be displayed on the unit to the right front. The entry number needs to be clearly visible to the parade announcers. The fire vehicle and float formation area will be on Main Street between Arcadia and Cesar Chavez. All fire vehicles must be in the parade formation area no later than 10:00 am. Traffic barricades will make access to the formation area very difficult after 10:00 am. The parade starts at 11:30 am. March 30 (Sunday) CFE Annual Banquet (Riverside, CA)
12 noon - 4pm, the Old Spaghetti Factory, 3191 Mission Inn Avenue, Riverside. Happy hour starts at noon with lunch served at 1:00. The cost is $20 per person. There will be 3 platters to choose from: 1) Lasagna & Chicken Marsala; 2) Spinach & Cheese Ravioli with Marinara Sauce and Spaghetti with Rich Meat Sauce; 3) Sicilian Meatballs, Italian Sausage and Spaghetti with Rich Meat Sauce. All meals include dinner salad, bread, desert (spumoni or vanilla ice cream) and non-alcoholic drinks. The bar will be open if you want to purchase alcoholic beverages. The guest speaker is still being planned. Please bring something nice for the raffle. Doug Hammer will be sending out flyers in the near future with all of the details. April 26 (Saturday) - Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, Southern Region Burn Relay (L.A. area)
All day event. Stage at Santa Monica Airport at 6 am. Participation by numerous southland FDs and antique apparatus owners. The vehicles will be divided into two groups: inland route and coastal route (we used to try to do all the stops in one day, but the event has gotten too big, so now it is divided in half). It will start with breakfast at Santa Monica, includes snacks at stops along the way and the Grand Finale is at Los Angeles County FD Training Center in East Los Angeles with food and entertainment. Directions to Santa Monica Staging: From the north, take the I-405 south to the I-10 west and immediately take the Bundy Dr. South exit (exit 2B). Take Bundy Dr. south to National Blvd, then follow directions below. Coming from the east, take the I-10 westbound and exit at Bundy Dr. (first exit after you pass the I-10/I-405 interchange). Take the Bundy south, proceed south on Bundy to National Blvd, then follow directions below. Coming from the south, take the I-405 north to National Blvd. exit and go left (west). Take National to Bundy Dr. and go left (south), then follow directions below. From ALL directions: Once you are at Bundy Dr. and National Blvd, proceed south on Bundy and turn right at the next intersection (Airport Ave). Proceed down Airport Ave. a little less than 1/2 mile (watch out for the speed bumps) until you see a sign directing where to turn right through a gate and back into a parking area (usually the sign is on a barricade in the middle of the street and usually there is someone to direct you in). The staging area is behind a large hanger building and the apparatus stage task-force style along the road below the cliffs. To participate your vehicle must be currently registered and insured and proof of both must be presented at sign in, if not sent in before. April 27 (Sunday) - CFE Spring Pump-In (Perris, CA)
9 am to 3 pm, Orange Empire Railway Museum (OERM), 2201 S. "A" St., Perris. In Conjunction with the OERM "Spring Railfest" (special exhibits and tours and train and trolly car rides all day). CFE will have a fire apparatus display and pumping demonstrations. Presentation of the Brian Dierkens Memorial Award at Noon. Directions: From the North (San Bernardino, Riverside) Take I-215 south to Perris. In Perris, exit at Route 74 West. Follow Route 74 (4th Street) west for 1 mile. Turn left onto "A" Street. Follow "A" Street south for 1.5 miles. From the West (Los Angeles, Orange County), Take I-10 or Route 60 or Route 91 east to I-215 (approximately 50 miles from downtown Los Angeles). Take I-215 south to Perris. In Perris, exit at Route 74 West. Follow Route 74 (4th Street) west for 1 mile. Turn left onto "A" Street. Follow "A" Street south for 1.5 miles. From the South (San Diego) Take I-15 north to I-215 north. Follow I-215 north to Perris. In Perris, exit at Route 74 West. Follow Route 74 (4th Street) west for 1 mile. Turn left onto "A" Street. April 30 (Wednesday) - Baskin-Robbins 31 Cent Scoop Night to help National Fallen Firefighters Foundation
CFE members are invited to join Baskin-Robbins in supporting the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and your local fire service organization on Wednesday, April 30. From 5pm to 10pm, local Baskin-Robbins shops will hold 31 Cent Scoop Night to show their commitment to the firefighting community. A donation of $100,000 will be made to the NFFF to honor America's firefighters and Baskin-Robbins shops will reduce the price of small scoops to 31 cents. The event also creates an opportunity for customers to donate to local fire charities in their neighborhoods. If you would like to display your rig and help bring attention to this worthwhile cause, please e-mail Caitlin Melnick at cmelnick@schneiderpr.com and she will match you up with a Baskin-Robbins store near you. This will save on both travel time and fuel. 2008 is the second annual 31 Cent Scoop Night and the first time CFE has been invited to join in.

May 10 (Saturday) Hammer Annual BBQ (Banning, CA)
2pm - 7pm. CFE Vice President Doug Hammer and his wife Linda invite CFE members and friends to their annual BBQ at their "spread" on the Banning Bench. This is a big community gathering attended by hundreds it gets bigger every year! Fire memorabilia, fire trucks and more will be on display. Fire Engine rides around the Banning Beach all afternoon. The BBQ will be all afternoon, so bring your friends and the kids and enjoy some good food and fellowship. The location is 10-469 Bluff St., Banning, CA 92220. Take the Sunset Ave. exit from the I-10 and go north up the hill to Mesa St. and then to Bluff St. Look for the Snorkel in the air and you are there. May 17 (Saturday) - 2009 Convention Planning Meeting (Ontario, CA)
9 AM - Ontario FD Training Center. All CFE members who have already volunteered to be on one of the committees, or any who want to help with the 2009 SPAAMFAA Winter Convention being hosted by our chapter, please attend this meeting. Directions: (San Bernardino Thomas Brothers Page 642-F4): Take the 60 freeway to the Grove Ave. exit and go north on Grove (coming from the west offramp turn left and coming from the east offramp turn right). Take Grove to the second traffic light which is Francis Ave. Turn right on Francis and go one long block to Parco Ave. Station is on corner so make right turn on Parco and turn into gate at rear of station. You will see training building as you go in. The meeting will be there if it is not being used by fire dept. personnel. Otherwise it will be in the portable classroom at the lower end of the training grounds. Look for signs with directions to right room on the day of meeting. May 18 (Sunday) Redlands Firefighters 12th Annual Car Show (Redlands, CA)
Time is 8am to 3pm, with a pancake breakfast served from 7am to 10am. Show your car, truck, cycle or special interest vehicle on historic State Street in downtown Redlands. Modern and antique fire apparatus displays, food and refreshments, drawings for prizes, dash plaques for participating vehicles. Directions for participants: From eastbound I-10 take the Orange/Eureka St. exit and turn right at the bottom of the ramp. Go to Brookside Avenue and turn left, then go to 9th street and turn left and then proceed as directed by parking attendants. From westbound I-10, take the Cypress offramp and proceed straight ahead to Citrus and turn left. Take Citrus to 9th street, turn right. July 19 (Saturday) San Diego-Imperial County Burn Run & Fire Expo (San Diego Area)
The Burn Run (open only to fire service vehicles) finishes at the FIRE EXPO which is the largest firefighting event in Southern California. FIRE EXPO is designed to heighten awareness of modern emergency services and includes “live“ firefighting demonstrations, a fire and burn prevention pavilion, a firefighter obstacle course for the kids, fire engine rides, a Kidde Karnival, live music, food and much more. FIRE EXPO is free to the public and a great place for families to spend a summer day. FIRE EXPO is the only special event in San Diego County endorsed by the San Diego County Fire Chiefs' Association where every fire agency, association and union participates. This year, we anticipate a crowd of more than 20,000 for this unique and fun event which will include an exciting Firefighter Combat Challenge. August 23 (Saturday) Firefighter Appreciation Night at Irwindale Speedway (Irwindale, CA) CFE has been invited back to this event. The track is located off of Live Oak Ave. and the 605 freeway between the 10 and 210 freeways. This event is held to show appreciation for firefighters and their families throughout Southern California for the job they perform. Last year, the rigs paraded around the track during pre-race ceremonies and were brought to the infield for a display during the driver autograph session. September 5 (Saturday) Fire Engine Night at Cruisin’ Grand (Escondido, CA)
5pm - 9pm. Staging at 5pm at Broadway and 2nd Avenue. Broadway will be closed on both sides of Grand Avenue for static display of modern and classic fire equipment. Open cruise along Grand Avenue. Pre-1974 American-made classic, vintage hot-rods, custom cars and trucks. Participants and visitors are welcome! Art Galleries, Antique Shops and Restaurants are open. Live DJs playing 50's music. Last year's event included many in-service Escondido units and a Code 3 Parade down Grand Avenue. Several thousand people attend this event in Escondido on Friday nights to see several hundred classic vehicles on display. September 13th, 2006 (Saturday) Open House at Fire and Cop Shop (Moreno Valley)
The Fire and Cop Shop at 24070 Postal Ave in Moreno Valley will be holding it's Annual Open House. They are looking for rigs for display. Start time is 5pm (rigs should be there about 4:30 so they can be set up) and it goes untill the last person leaves. Food is provided and last year the Hammers and Alan Gilliam brought rigs and had a great time.
